Charles Beirnes:

I had the pleasure to serve with Ken on the Shelburne Police Service from 1985 until he retired in 1987. I have many fond memories of working with Ken. He was a very fair person and was well respected by his fellow officers and the citizens of the community. Ken introduced me to many fine citizens of the community of Shelburne and gave me a history lesson on the community like no one else could. Ken and Joan always treated me like family. I spent many days swimming in their pool when my kids were little. I will always cherish the great times that Lily and I shared with Ken and his family. The Beirnes family would like to extend our condolences to Ken's family. Rest in Peace Ken, and thankyou for your service.

Last time I saw Ken was about 2 years ago at a pool party in Marnie’s backyard. He was wearing a tiger-striped speedo—and he rocked it. I’m grateful that I was able to see and speak to Ken that afternoon. We talked about the old days, particularly when he was a police officer. I reminded him that, many years ago, he chased me all over town one night in my ‘66 Mustang and when he pulled me over, the first thing I got was a swat in the head. He took me home and woke up my parents. A lecture ensued, but no charges (although he certainly could have levied quite a few). Ken’s response was: “Well, I don’t remember that, but it sounds like me.” I always respected Ken. Best regards to the family.

To my 1st Cousins- Richard, Marnie, Kenny, Michele and your families. Thankfully we had a small family reunion a couple of years ago at Marnies and I got to visit with Uncle Ken. He was in good form and was as funny as I remembered him growing up. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. Although he presented a formidable figure in his police uniform, he had a heart of gold and a twinkle in his eyes. I have fond memories of our visits to Shelburne. Thinking of you all at this time and offering my prayers. In Love and Light - may Peace be with you. Sending big hugs. Love Patti (aka Trish) from Duncan, BC.
