Obituary for Evelyn Marie McInnes (Smith)

McInnes; Evelyn Marie
Suddenly at home on Monday, December 23, 2019 of Eugenia in her 68th year. Beloved wife of the late William (2009). Loving mother of Barbara of Ottawa, William (Suzanne) of Eugenia, Melanie Rose (Al Seymour) of Bradford and Jimmy (April) of Markdale. Adoring grandmother of Maeve, Atticus, Finn, Damion, Alexandra, Nichole, Ashley, Chase, Alyson and Katelyn. Fondly remembered by great grandchildren Olivia Rose and Emma Marie. Evelyn will be greatly missed by dear friend Caroline Seymour. Predeceased by her brother, William and her parents, Barbara and Frederick (Nancy).

Born in Toronto, she was a loving daughter and support to her working mother and as a child, took on many responsibilities to help raise her younger brother, Billy. As a young parent, she and her husband Bill left the big city to raise their three children in the relative "wilderness" (or so their friends and family believed) of Grey Country and, armed only with a library card and a strong work ethic, raised poultry, learned the intricacies of partylines and heating a home by wood as well as epic-sized gardening, canning, pickling and scratch cooking. She called Hanover and Dundalk home before relocating to Eugenia where she and Bill found great joy in the later-in-life arrival of their fourth child. She and Bill inspired a love of the outdoors, camping, bonfires and storytelling in all four of their children and grandchildren. A cup of tea perpetually in hand, she could often be found watching old movies and keeping up to date as 24 hour news channels had a loyal audience in Evelyn. Evelyn found loyal support in her friend Caroline with whom she shared laughter and sisterhood. Evelyn was always able to find great joy in the small and simple moments with family and the friends she made in her 20 years as Chief Pizzamaker at The Top of the Rock in Eugenia. She will be missed for her kindness and generous spirit.

The family will receive friends at Fawcett Funeral Home, Flesherton on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 3-5pm. Funeral service from the chapel on Saturday, December 28 at 1pm. Memorial Donations to the Flesherton and District Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences and donations available at www.fawcettfuneralhome.ca
