Obituary for Irene Ingeborg Schroer (Jaeger)

Irene Ingeborg Schroer, daughter of Hermann and Gertrude Jaeger from Lichtenrade, Germany passed away peacefully at Meaford Long Term Care on Saturday, December 14, 2019 in her 94th year.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Hendryk Schroer, and her sons Andreas and Oliver. She was also the mother of Ansgar (Michelle Currie) and Martina Schroer, grandmother of Christopher (Steven Ireson), Philip (Emily Macino), Julian (Julia Liebisch-Peschl), Victoria (Adam Wadel), Nathaniel Schroer and great-grandmother of Emerson and Anderson Wadel. Irene will be missed by many, especially her close friend, Tasha Stephenson.
Irene survived WWII as a teenager in Germany, which likely fostered her resilience and indomitable spirit for living life to the fullest. She emigrated to Canada with her husband and two children in 1954. After a decade, and two more sons born in Toronto, the family moved to Vandeleur, Beaver Valley, where they renovated an old farmhouse and settled for the rest of her life.
Irene was a conscientious and dedicated mother and an industrious homemaker. She was skilled with her hands: she knit and sewed and baked and laid in preserves. She cultivated bees and amazing gardens, including vegetables, herbs and beautiful flowers. Her intelligent mind appreciated good books and music and art. Although she was hard-working, she made time for fun and games and travel adventures with family and friends. She loved animals – especially her cats - and nature and people. She had an open and curious mind, and reveled in lively conversations around a well-laden dinner table. Her hospitality and generosity were extended to all visitors; delicious food was never in short supply, even when times were tough. Her kindness and genuine interest in others engendered a devoted multi-generational community of friends. In spite of adversity and loss, Irene lived a rich, full life and enriched so many others’ lives.
Due to the current COVID-19 Health situation, the celebration of Irene's life will be postponed. A date will be set later once we know it is safer to gather. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bruce Trail Conservancy, Doctors Without Borders or other humanitarian organization, or an animal welfare organization would be appreciated.
