Obituary for Shirley Mildred Blahut (Bemister)

Blahut; Shirley Mildred (nee Bemister)
Passed peacefully at Chapman House, Owen Sound on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at age 75. Beloved wife of 51 years to Carl. Loving mother of Monica (Rob) Scribner of Owen Sound. She was the proud and loved grandma of Foster Fenton and Emily Fenton. Dear sister of Harris, Don(Jean) Bemister, Sandy(Sarah) Bemister and Betty(Dave) Chaulk. She is greatly missed by her beloved feline friend Syd. Predeceased by her parents Walter and Evelyn Bemister and her brother Max and sister Elsie West. She will be cherished by her many nieces, nephews, and her step-grandchildren Zachyri and Emmyli Scribner. She was a second mother to Tamara Croft. Loved by her best friends Hazel Reid and Donna McCullough. Fondly missed by her extended family, including Phil West, special nephew, and Bonnie Martin, close cousin. She is reunited with her fur babies Smidge, Kitty and Smokey.
Shirley was born in Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland and was raised there until she took the big leap and moved to Toronto. It was there she met the love of her life Carl and married him May 31, 1968. They knew something was missing, and decided to adopt their baby girl whom they went to Newfoundland to pick up in 1975. Shirley had found her calling; being a mom, until she became a grandmother; this was her greatest joy. Her favourite past times were sitting on the deck, petting the cat and drinking coffee. She loved to bird watch and feed the chipmunks from her back deck and she took great pride in her gardens.
A sincere thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all the friends and family that came to visit Shirley while in hospital and hospice; and to those who travelled far to spend those days with her. It was so touching to have family visit from Newfoundland and Saskatchewan. To the doctors that kept her comfortable, including Dr. Blake, Dr. Chapman and Dr. Barfoot, you are gifted at what you do. To all of the staff at the hospice, words cannot express our appreciation for all of the care you gave to Shirley and also to our whole family, your kindness will never be forgotten.
A come and go celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Harrison Park in the Stone Community Centre on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 1:30-4:00. CASUAL WEAR ONLY PLEASE. Cremation has taken place. At a later date, a tree will be planted in her memory at Harrison Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Residential Hospice Grey Bruce, Chapman House would be gratefully appreciated.
