After a lengthy battle with Cancer, Charles passed peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services, Markdale on September 27, 2018 of Markdale, formerly of Toronto and Kimberley, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Tillie Brace. Loving father of Bill(Judy), Roy(Barb), Wayne(Debbie), Maryann(Andy) Pettipas, Donna(the late Frank Binder), David(Marlene) and Sandra(Raymond) Strangis. Loved and remembered as grandfather to Shawn, Melissa, Jesse, Ashley, Charles, Michelle, Valerie, Jason, Daniel, Nathaniel, Alex and Wayne, great grandfather of 21 and great great grandfather of 1. Charles is survived by his sister Thelma Sanders. Predeceased by brothers Bill and Thomas and sister Margaret.

Charles was born on October 28, 1929 in Fortune Fortune Bay, NFLD to Charles and Maryann Lake. He met and married the love of his life, Tillie, on June 28, 1951. At a mere 20 years old, Charles moved to Ontario with only his grade 11 education. He had a passion for fishing with his brother bill and brother in-law Lonce, long walks, playing cards, chopping wood along with his LARGE passion for his vegetable garden.

A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Gentle Shepherd Community Church, Eugenia, on Saturday, October 6 at 11am. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery, Halifax Nova Scotia with his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Gentle Shepherd Community Church, Eugenia, would be gratefully appreciated.
