Vanry; Gerda Hildegard

After a lengthy battle with dementia, Gerda passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Grey Gables Nursing Home in Markdale (formerly of Flesherton) in her 88th year. She is reunited with her beloved husband Cornelis “Casey” Vanry (2001). She was a loving mother to Doug Vanry (Laura Sturm) of Flesherton and will be missed as “Oma” to her grandchildren; Janine (Chris Hadlock), Michelle (James Atkinson) and Nicole. Gerda is survived by two sisters in-law, Ann Vanry and Ann Boonstra. Predeceased by her siblings, including her only brother in Canada, Paul (Alvena) Fischer and brother-in-law John Vanry.

Gerda was born to Emilie and Hermann Fischer on January 14, 1931 in Horn, Germany. She became a Canadian Citizen on January 19, 1960 and later met her husband. Casey and Gerda owned Aquarius Health Resort in Flesherton where they provided many years of health and healing to clients through naturopathic medicine. Gerda loved to garden, bake, cook delicious meals, and spend quality time with her family.

The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Thursday, August 9 from 6:00-8:00pm. A private family service will take place at a later date. Interment at Salem Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Gerda to the Grey Gables Day Away Program or the Grey Gables Activity Fund would be gratefully appreciated.
