Ray taught elementary and secondary students over the span of four decades. He was appointed guidance coordinator for South East Grey Board of Education in 1966 and went on to set up the guidance department at Grey Highlands in Flesherton where he remained head of guidance until his retirement in 1986.
Through the rest of the 1980's, 1990's and 2000's he continued to support and guide students through continuing education programs with the Ministry of Education. Ray loved when he ran into former students and revelled in their successes. This passion for young people was also directed towards his grandhchildren. He and Fran were involved with and celebrated all of the activities that their many grandchildren enjoyed
