Wood; Jean Agnes (nee Manvell)
After a brief illness Jean passed peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Hospice Wellington in Guelph. A longtime resident of Flesherton, Jean was in her 88th year. She is reunited with her beloved husband Percival (Percy) Albert John (2008). Loving mother of John (Wilma) of Sarnia, Nigel (Janette) of Guelph and the late Graham (Shirley) of Kelowna, B.C. Loved and remembered by grandchildren Stuart (Suzanne) Campbell and great grandchildren Mason, Hunter, and Logan of Collingwood; Kirsten (Ken) Mulleny and great grandchildren David and Ayla; Courtney (Curtis) Koepke and great grandchild Brooklyn, and Stirling Wood of Kelowna, B.C., Krystle (Dallas) Wood-Sward of Kenora, Jacquelyn (Adam) Roosenboom and great grandchildren Jase and Lily-Ann of Cambridge, Andrew Wood of Guelph, Dale Kustermans of Red Lake, Derik (Val) Kustermans of London and Kelli (Stacy) Brent and great grandchildren Owen, Ava, Hunter and Ryerson of Glencoe. She is survived by her sister Hazel Gubbin and brother Stephen Manvell (Mary) of England.
Jean was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex, England to Frederick and Violet. She met Percy when they were both involved in the Young Farmers Club of Haywards Heath, they married and farmed together in England until 1966 when they decided the future would be brighter for their three boys in Canada. They continued to farm in Canada until 1987 when they retired and moved to Flesherton. Jean’s interest in reading and education found her volunteering at the Flesherton Library and serving on the Library Board for a number of years. Her other interests were painting and, with Percy, creating a magnificent garden enjoyed by family and friends for many years.
At Jean's request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Jean’s and Percy’s ashes will be returned to the hills of Southern England where they met and first fell in love. The Wood family greatly appreciates the support and well-wishes provided by the community over the last 4 months and sincerely thanks everybody who has been a part of her life in Flesherton. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held later this spring in Flesherton. Memorial contributions to the Markdale Hospital Fund or Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
